LA, and Atlanta.

The Case for Wireless
Our wireless system, called Wireless Directtm,
is positioned to provide full-bandwidth T-1 (1,500Kbps) or fractional T1 (768Kbps) at
costs well below traditional T-1 ground lines. Its primary virtue, over and above
its reliability and ease of use, is its cost savings - in equipment purchases and
maintenance, as well as recurring costs.
Our wireless system uses a microwave frequency range of
2.4GHz to provide 2Mbps of bandwidth directly to a customers Ethernet port. No
routers or CSU/DSU units are needed. We mean it - none! Wireless Direct brings T-1
bandwidth to your network with NO equipment, installation, or configuration costs.
Our main transmitting antenna is located on the WBGU tower
in central Bowling Green. Effective range (with our current hardware) is five miles. There
are alternatives available to us to provide greater bandwidth at longer distances,
however, we have not had the opportunity to put any of these alternatives in the field
yet. Outside of distance limitations, the service requires line-of-sight to a transceiver.
This is normally not a problem in Bowling Green, but there are some communities with heavy
tall tree growth that can prevent line-of-sight transmission. Normally there are
workarounds, including setting up "repeater" radios in appropriate locations.
Before Wireless Direct, a company looking to lease a T-1
line for Internet access in Bowling Green faced a startling array of setup fees and
hardware costs. Normally, the costs associated with installing T-1 access contain four
factors:
Traditional Ground Copper T-1
- Customer hardware purchases - ~$4,000 for hardware (router,
CSU/DSU units), not counting the costs to setup and configure.
- Setup fees from the telco and the ISP - ~$2,000
- Monthly telco fees for the "point-to-point"
(customer to ISP) connection - ~$600
- Monthly ISP fees for T-1 Internet access - ~$1,500
So, for $6,000 in start-up costs and $2,100/month, a
company could have a T-1 line for Net access. However, the Wireless Direct service
entirely eliminates the first three cost factors, leaving only the monthly fee to the ISP:
Wireless Direct
- Customer Premise Equipment - $0
- Setup fees from the telco - $0
- Monthly telco fees for the "point-to-point"
(customer to ISP) connection - $0
- Monthly ISP fees for T-1 Internet access - $90 to $1,000
